For a long time there has been talk about the possibility of Ai Ogura moving up to MotoGP, and if two years ago this possibility seemed very real, the truth is that it gradually came to be «forgotten»… until 2025: the Japanese is once again on everyone’s lips of the world, for the season he is having but rejects to move up to the main category.
Second placed at the moment in the intermediate class, with 7 points less than the leader, Sergio García, and with Takaaki Nakagami’s place under consideration, the position was once again rumored, but Neil Hodgson clarified, in conversation with Sylvain Guintoli, who confronted and put pressure on the MT Helmets – MSI rider about the place, with the young man making clear the “conditions” to take his career in such a direction, in words to TNT Sports: ‘He was adamant. I pressed him on it. He said: «I won’t go unless I win the Moto2 championship»’.
Such comment deserved a response from Guintoli: ‘He will get the ride at some point. It’s better to stay in Moto2 and win the championship’.
Hodgson then clarified that he believes Ogura is waiting for a more competitive bike: ‘I guess he’s hoping that if he waits another year, there’s a chance of improving the bike’, to what Guintoli replied: ‘Or a couple of years for a rule change. But that’s a long time’.
