Francesco Bagnaia crashed in the Sprint race at the MotoGP British GP while attempting to catch the leading riders, including his main title rival, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati), who had a similar fate in the main race at the German GP about a month ago.
The Italian rider from Ducati was asked if the crashes are a factor of the intensity of the fight for the championship. The 2022 and 2023 champion replied:
– Absolutely. First of all, the new rear tyres are fantastic, but are making us crash more, because the rear is pushing a lot the front. And the first three riders finished the [Sprint] race with eight seconds to the fourth. So at the moment the speed some guys are having is incredible; I think we never saw something like that and it’s super impressive, I love it. But the risk of a crash is always there.
Asked whether the way of riding is changing due to that extra grip, Bagnaia explained: ‘Honestly a bit. But it’s already ten races, so we already know. But every time we forget’.
