It was necessary to wait until the end of the race for replays to show what happened on the first lap that forced Miguel Oliveira anda Raúl Fernández to retire from the MotoGP British GP in the first lap.
The Trackhouse Racing riders were in the middle of the pack trying to recover some positions. Oliveira widened his trajectory and was then hit by teammate Fernández – who had fallen first and couldn’t avoid the collision.
Given the dynamics of the incident, no one is to blame, as it was a racing incident where they weren’t even fighting directly for position: once Fernández fell, he couldn’t do anything to avoid hitting someone who was in the path of his uncontrolled bike.
The crash left both riders unable to fight for points in Silverstone, in a weekend that had already been somewhat challenging from the start – unlike what happened before the summer break in Sachsenring.
This was the second time in 2024 that Oliveira had to retire from a main race, after doing the same in France. Fernández, on the other hand, suffered his third DNF of the season.
