The seventh generation of the Transporter has been revealed by VW, which will be available in the market in 2025, with three engine options: Diesel, plug-in hybrid gasoline, and electric.
The electric range of the Transporter will have three power levels: 136 hp, 218 hp, and 286 hp, all versions equipped with a 64 kWh battery capacity. Additionally, a reduced power electric version with a smaller battery for urban cargo transport is planned for the future.
In addition to the 100% electric variants, the Transporter also offers versions equipped with the latest TDI (turbo diesel) engines with 110 hp, 150 hp, and 170 hp, along with a variant with the newly developed plug-in hybrid propulsion system (eHybrid) with 232 hp.
The TDI and eHybrid models are front-wheel drive, and the 4Motion all-wheel drive system is available for TDI versions starting from 150 hp. The fully electric models have rear-wheel drive, and a version with all-wheel drive is also planned for the future.
The TDI 170 hp engine is equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard; this gearbox is also available as an option for the TDI 150 hp. For plug-in hybrid and electric models, the automatic gearbox is mandatory. The new generation of the Transporter is presented with a length of 5,050 mm (146 mm more compared to the T6.1). Its wheelbase has been increased by 97 mm to 3,100 mm; an extended wheelbase of an additional 400 mm will also be available as an option (total length: 5,450 mm). With a width of 2,032 mm, the exterior width of the Transporter has increased by 128 mm compared to its predecessors (excluding exterior mirrors). The maximum width between the wheel arches has been increased by 148 mm to 1,392 mm, making it easier to store Euro pallets. The standard length of the cargo space on the floor of the Transporter is 2,602 mm wheelbase – an increase of 61 mm; with the long wheelbase, the length of the cargo space increases to 3,002 mm.Another standard feature is the new multifunction steering wheel with easy-to-use buttons, even with gloves. Like in the Multivan and the ID. Buzz, the new Transporter also has an electric parking brake with Auto-Hold function. The operation of the parking brake has been moved to the instrument panel, thus freeing up more space in the footwell for possible rear access through the cabin – depending on the equipment.
In addition, the infotainment system can optionally be enhanced with a navigation system, VW Connect online mobile services, and VW Connect Plus (standard with the navigation system) and a Harman Kardon sound system.
The new generation of the Transporter also includes a PanAmericana version, an exclusive variant of the model that has evolved into a cult classic since 2001. In this generation, the PanAmericana variant will be available in conjunction with the van and Caravelle models.
Externally, the new PanAmericana is recognizable by its robust off-road finishes on the side panels and wheel arches, textured bumpers for adverse conditions, and a painted radiator grille. Adhesive films also protect the tailgate or rear doors in the lower area.
In the interior, highlighted by illuminated stainless steel applications for the steps, glossy black applications on the front panel, and chrome interior handles. Other distinctive features include exclusive fabrics for the seats with the “PanAmericana” engraving incorporated in the backrests, as well as aesthetically coordinated stitching to harmonize with the colors of the fabrics and other design elements inside the vehicles.
The Caravelle PanAmericana comes standard with the new 19” Indianapolis alloy wheels (in black with a glossy finish), which are also available for the PanAmericana Transporter. The optional 4Motion all-wheel drive is available for both PanAmericana versions.
