The Republican National Guard (GNR) will be attentive to automobile circulation on the main national road axes, particularly on the roads leading to the south of the country, namely until next Sunday.
The “Hermes – Travel Safely” 2024 operation, which operates from this Friday, is focused on its periods and routes but is critical regarding the GNR’s area of responsibility and also aims to “prevent accidental damage, especially regarding motorized two-wheeled vehicles”.
The three days of reinforced patrolling coincide with the World Superbike Championship, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão, with an expected increase in road circulation.
The main objective of the operation, explains the GNR in a statement, is to “strengthen road safety, ensuring traffic flow and providing support to road users, and raise awareness among two-wheeled vehicle drivers about the dangers of reckless driving and the lack of use of helmets, appropriate clothing, and footwear”.
