After Toprak Razgatlioglu set the pace in the first free practice, Ducati emerged superior on Friday at the Portimão round of the World Superbike Championship. Danilo Petrucci clocked the fastest time of FP2 and of the day.
The first timed lap at the FP2 was set by Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW), who was soon beaten by Iker Lecuona (Team HRC), followed by Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW), Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati), and Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW) at the top.
Petrucci took the lead again on his second attempt and was only overtaken by Razgatlioglu about 23 minutes later. However, with six minutes left before the checkered flag, the Italian set the best time of FP2 and the day at 1m40.681s. Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) crashed but still secured second place, just 0.023s behind. Razgatlioglu finished third, 0.179s off the pace, and did not improve from FP1, placing 0.096s behind Petrucci in the combined standings.
Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati) overcame his flu-like symptoms and technical issues from FP1 to finish fourth. Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha) completed the top five, ahead of Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha).
Aside from Razgatlioglu, only Philipp Öttl (GMT94 Yamaha) did not improve from the first session.
