Adrián Huertas is in a good place to extend his streak of six consecutive wins at the Portimão round of the World Supersport Championship. This Friday, he secured his second pole position of the season.
The Superpole session took place at the Algarve circuit. Valentin Debise (Evan Bros. Yamaha) was the first to complete a timed lap but was soon overtaken by Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti).
A crash by Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta) at Turn 9 not only sent the rider to the medical center but also led to a red flag. When the session resumed, Huertas (Aruba.it Ducati) moved into the lead.
Although Huertas was briefly beaten by Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati), he responded towards the end of the session with a lap time of 1m43.352s to secure pole position. Montella improved his time but finished 0.240s behind.
Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate) took third place, 0.739s off the pole position time. Federico Caricasulo (Motozoo ME AIR Racing/MV Agusta) and Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing VerdNatura/Ducati) rounded out the top five, both within the same second as Huertas.
