Danilo Petrucci was again the fastest in the third and final free practice session of the World Superbike Championship in Portimão, setting the best lap time of the weekend so far.
Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) was the first to complete a timed lap, but within less than a minute, the top of the timesheet changed hands four times: Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW), Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha), and Alex Lowes all held the lead.
The British rider from Kawasaki improved his time soon after, leading for over ten minutes until Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati) set the fastest time of the session with a 1m40.316s. Lowes did not improve further and remained in second place, 0.254s behind. Near the end of the session, Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) achieved his best lap but finished in third, 0.260s off the top.
Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW), who faced issues with his bike in FP2 yesterday, secured fourth place. Van der Mark rounded out the top five. All five top riders improved their lap times compared to yesterday’s sessions, with Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) and Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati) finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
