Similar to what happened in 2020 at Repsol Honda, Álex Márquez will have his brother Marc as a teammate in MotoGP in 2024 – now at the Gresini satellite team and presumably for the entire year, after Marc stayed away from the tracks in 2020 due to an injury suffered in the first race.
In an interview with Catalunya Radio, Álex Márquez talked about the motivation of having someone like Marc on the other side of the garage, also admitting that the level of difficulty will be high: ‘In no way does having a brother who is an eight-time world champion make you question yourself, but you get used to that over time. I think especially now, it motivates me a lot that he’s coming to the team because having such a competitive teammate elevates your own level. It will be difficult, but we’ll try. And being able to exchange opinions, having feedback from each other, I think that can raise my level, and we could win the team world championship’.
The #73 explained that it’s premature to anticipate what might happen, but highlighted Marc Márquez’s talent: ‘It’s quite early to make predictions, but I believe so, I know what Marc is like, give him a tricycle, and he’ll go fast. I think with the experience he has, he can fight for the title’.
