The Aspar Team was in the MotoGP World Championship until the 2018 season. At that time, there were financial difficulties triggered by the sudden departure of a main sponsor – Drive M7 – in early 2015, before the second year of a three-year contract.
Now, the Spanish team is focused on developing riders, concentrating on the lower classes, as well as on an academy in Spain. The owner, Jorge Martínez Aspar, emphasized to SPEEDWEEK.com that there have been noticeable improvements since closing the MotoGP project:
– Since I closed my MotoGP team at the end of 2018, everything has changed for the better. Now, we focus on the Moto3 and Moto2 classes. We are building young riders for the future. That’s why we are investing a lot of money in our youth school in Spain.
According to the owner, there are over 100 young riders under the Aspar umbrella, with the best ones then being developed for the future. And he stressed: ‘Our goal is to continue investing a lot of money in these youth programs over the next few years’.
Currently, the team is in Moto2 and Moto3, as well as in MotoE, FIM JuniorGP, European Moto2, and the European Talent Cup. In recent seasons, talents such as Raúl Fernández, Daniel Holgado, or David Alonso have passed through their ranks – with the Colombian being the Moto3 Rookie of the Year in 2023.
