Marco Bezzecchi had a remarkable 2023 MotoGP season, securing third place in the championship with two victories in main races. However, he also faced some challenging moments, particularly the injury to his collarbone during training at Valentino Rossi’s Ranch just days before the Indonesian Grand Prix.
In an interview with SPEEDWEEK.com, the Italian reflected on the positive aspects of the past year, even including his injury among them: ‘There were very good moments, fortunately many pleasant ones. Certainly, the victory in India [Sprint race] was beautiful. But I would also say that ultimately, the injury brought me good moments. After getting injured, there was a real rollercoaster of emotions: initially, of course, despair. But then, I was fully motivated, I wanted to have surgery immediately – I went straight to the gym without even being at home; the quick comeback… it was four intense days, but when I look back now, they were also good’.
When asked to explain why he considered the injury as one of the good moments, Bezzecchi stated: ‘Sure, it wasn’t good to get hurt. But everything that happened afterward was unbelievable. The decision was made at 08:00pm. for me to try; the next morning, I went to Bologna for an examination with Dr. Porcellini, then to Milan, and I only arrived at the track at 08:00am. on Friday… It was a truly absurd story – and that’s why it was good’.
