When everything seemed lost for continuing in MotoGP, Fabio Di Giannantonio saw a door open for 2024: that of the VR46 Racing Team, following Luca Marini’s departure to Repsol Honda. The victory at the Qatar GP is seen as a key aspect in securing the spot, but the team director, Uccio Salucci, denied that it was the sole reason.
First of all, the official emphasized to Motorsport.com that #49 had been competitive long before signing the contract: ‘It’s not true that he was only strong before or after signing. He had been strong for two months’.
Regarding the decision-making process, Salucci explained: ‘I analyze things, race by race, corner by corner, and he literally changed gear. I also spoke to [Gigi] Dall’Igna about this to understand the technical motivation, and he told me it’s never just one motivation. There are always three or four aspects that change the situation. Therefore, they put in a shock absorber that works, an acceleration mapping that was missing. It gave him a motivation’.
