This year, Marc Márquez will be a rider for Gresini in MotoGP, marking his first experience outside of Honda and with a satellite team. However, in 2025, he could return to a factory team, possibly with KTM.
The Corse di Moto website reports that the Mattighofen-based manufacturer has been in contact with the rider’s manager, Jaime Martínez, since last summer. As is known, Márquez’s contract with Gresini is only for one year.
Some believe that this move to KTM could be a transitional year while Honda regains lost competitiveness in recent years, taking advantage of the concessions it would have access to.
On the other hand, being part of a Ducati satellite team – which has had the strongest bike recently – #93 is also linked to the Borgo Panigale manufacturer. Moreover, no one is under contract for 2024, not even the two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia.
If Márquez has a strong season finding again the «smile inside the helmet» as he desires, he could find himself in an strong position, having multiple competitive options for 2025.
KTM currently has Brad Binder under contract until the end of 2025, while Jack Miller’s contract expires this year. The Austrians have ambitions for success, and Márquez could be instrumental in achieving that goal. Additionally, there is a common sponsor—Red Bull.
On the other hand, the manufacturer also has several young talents who could be the «future» of MotoGP, such as Augusto Fernández and Pedro Acosta, and only a few seats to place the upcoming talents currently competing in Moto2 and Moto3. Choosing a veteran like Márquez at this point may go against the development project for future prospects.
