On his way to 39 years of age, Alvaro Bautista believes that he is in one of the best phases of his career as a rider, to the point of believing that he would be able to race at his best for a full season in the premier class of motorcycling. He also believes he never had the possibility to show his best level at the top tier class.
The reigning World Superbike champion gave an interview to Moto.it where he was asked if he would be able to do a season in MotoGP, to which he replied: ‘On a physical and mental level I would do a season in MotoGP, on a personal level and time level I would have to think about it, but on the other two aspects [physical and mental] I’m sure I would be willing to do a year in MotoGP’.
Even so, Bautista stressed that coming back wasn’t something that had crossed his mind: ‘I’ve never thought about it, but I would have to do it in terms of myself and time, because we have less time to recover and there’s a lot of time travelling’.
What’s more, the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider said he believes he’s more mature than ever, and at a competitive level like never before:
– I think I’m at the best level of my sporting career, in terms of experience, feeling, performance, lucidity… I don’t know, I feel very good and this bike allows me to enjoy myself. In 125 I was very good with the Aprilia, which was a very competitive bike, but in MotoGP I feel I couldn’t show my real level, either because of the timing, the bike… I didn’t have a bike that said ‘I’m at the maximum to show my level’. I have the nagging feeling that I couldn’t show my full potential.
