KTM keeps open the possibility of having six bikes in MotoGP, but Dorna is clear: to achieve this, they will have to find a satellite team among the current ones, as the grid won’t expand until the end of 2026.
The assurance was given by the CEO of the promoting entity, Carmelo Ezpeleta, in an interview with Marca: ‘We do not want to increase the number of slots, and we have already told KTM that the way is to reach an agreement with one of the existing teams. And that’s what they will do, I imagine. We will not increase the number until 2027, for sure’.
Even if a new manufacturer wants to enter, Ezpeleta does not consider the growth of the grid certain: ‘If a manufacturer came… it depends on how it comes. It may be a manufacturer to which you say it does the same as Aprilia did at the beginning, which was to have a franchise with Gresini. Or have a franchise with a commitment as a manufacturer, but that would always be within another period’.
