KTM aspires to take new strides in MotoGP, once again approaching the top and contending for titles. Nicolas Goyon, team manager of the Red Bull GasGas Tech3 satellite team, believes that this progress will be achieved and expresses confidence for 2024.
The Frenchman revealed the KTM’s estimates regarding the lap time deficit to the fastest riders: ‘Last week we were all in the factory and I had a nice talk with Fabiano [Sterlacchini, KTM’s technical director] about the targets and how was the progress. We made some progression. And how far we are from the top. And statistically there are some interesting numbers that show that we are really not far from the win. And we believe our package all throught the season, the average loss of laptime is less than 0.2s by lap. If we manage to improve 0.2s per lap, we are close to the top Ducati bike. Two tenths it’s a lot, but it’s only 0.2s’.
Goyon also expressed encouragement for the upcoming aerodynamic solutions, as well as the ingredients for success being in place: ‘I saw especially the aerodynamics items to test in the next couple of tests to come and there are quite interesting things. I can only tell you that all factory is pushing really hard. I really think we’ve made an interesting step last year, and now we need another step. But everybody is ready, is pushing, we have the right riders to do it. And honestly I’m really confident we will end the season close to the Ducati guys’.
