Marc Márquez’s move from Honda to Gresini Racing is undoubtedly the most impactful change in MotoGP in recent years, or the Spaniard would have been a multiple champion with the Repsol Honda Team, and one of the most iconic… and controversial riders in the category.
There were many rumours and highlights before the change of team was even confirmed, but it soon became clear that Gresini could be the former world champion’s final destination and Carmelo Ezpeleta believes that this was the best decision the #93 could have made.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Dorna’s CEO commented once again on the choice made by Álex Márquez’s brother, teammate of the now new Gresini rider: ‘Of course it’s not bad for the championship and I think it’s good for Marc and he made the decision and I think it was very well thought out and I have a lot of confidence in his analysis of the issues and I think if he thinks he should do it, it’s certainly the best path he could have taken’.
And Marc’s first contact with the Desmosedici was even greater, with the Spaniard standing out at the Valencia test and not hiding his smiles, although in the following tests his performance was more discreet, which many believe was a “tactic” by one of the strongest riders in the mind games the championship has seen.
