José Antonio Rueda led the second practice of the Qatar Moto3 GP with a lap that crushed the previous category record at Losail – naturally being the fastest in the practices.
From the beginning, the Spanish rider from Red Bull KTM Ajo was one of the fastest on the track. After the initial laps, the lead was held by Ivan Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM), who was later surpassed by Rueda. He stayed at the top for about 14 minutes before being overtaken by Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3).
Ortolá reclaimed the lead, but approximately six minutes later, he was surpassed on the leaderboard by David Alonso (CFMoto Aspar). Just moments before the checkered flag, Rueda set the best time: 2m03.465s. With this, he was 0.056s faster than Alonso, while Ortolá settled for third place, 0.059s behind. David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) and Holgado completed the top five fastest riders of the session.
However, in the combined results of both practices, the top five was rounded out by Holgado in fourth and Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) in fifth – neither of them improving compared to yesterday’s practice. Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) finished 14th and thus secured the last direct spot in the second phase of qualifying ahead of rookie Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda).
