Daniel Holgado dominated the Moto3 qualifying session of the Qatar Grand Prix. It was only towards the end of the session that he took the lead, but he did so with a new record-breaking lap.
In Q1, Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda), Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), and Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) secured the last four spots in the battle for pole position. Among the riders left out, the surprise was Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) – being fifth in Q1, 0.113s off the cut-off.
After the first laps of Q2, Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) held the lead, maintaining it for almost the entire session. However, in the final moments, Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) completed an impressive lap in 2m02.276s to clinch pole position. Ortolá finished 0.265s behind. José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who had been the fastest in practice, will start from third.
