Maverick Viñales was the fastest rider in the warm-up for the MotoGP Catalan GP. This continues Aprilia’s dominance in Barcelona, which was only interrupted during qualifying.
After the initial flying laps, Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) was the leader ahead of Raúl Fernández (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team/Aprilia). It was a strong start for the Noale bikes. Tehe rain threatened during the session and the warning flag was shown.
At the end of the second attempts, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) was at the top of the timesheets. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) also showed speed in this stage being second, while Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team/Ducati) reached third place.
Quartararo did not improve in the final moments, allowing three rivals who improved their times in their last laps to overtake him. Viñales ended up in the lead, beating Aleix Espargaró by 29 thousandths of a second. Franco Morbidelli (Monster Energy Yamaha) was third, 0.102s behind, with Quartararo in fourth.
The top five was rounded out by Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team/Aprilia), who, after a discreet warm-up, set a time in his penultimate lap that briefly placed him in second for a moment. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), the championship leader and pole position holder, finished 13th.
