Taking his first steps at Gresini and aboard the Ducati Desmosedici GP23, Marc Márquez has been modest in his ambitions for the 2024 MotoGP season. The six-time premier class champion has been the first to exclude himself as a regular contender for top positions, at least at this stage.
His former teammate, Pol Espargaró, told DAZN that this approach does not surprise him, but emphasized that Márquez is a rider you always have to count on:
– If you ask Marc Márquez, he will tell you that he won’t be fighting for podiums or victories. Marc Márquez is one of those riders you know can win at any time. It’s the kind of mindset that is very necessary in MotoGP, but Marc has shown for many years, even with bikes that weren’t at a high level, that he’s always there.
In the view of the current KTM test rider and TV commentator, #93 is aware of his winning possibilities: ‘He has fought for races that seemed impossible. Therefore, Márquez knows, and I am convinced of it, that he can win. And it’s something we will all enjoy every weekend we have races. He has a lot to show’.
