The last four riders to advance to the second phase of qualifying for the Portuguese Moto3 Grand Prix have been determined. Ryusei Yamanaka, Nicola Carraro, Filippo Farioli, and Vicente Pérez were the four fastest in Q1 on Saturday in Portimão and secured their spots in the battle for pole position.
After the initial flying laps, Pérez (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia), and Joshua Whatley (MLav Racing/Honda) occupied the qualifying positions. Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) suffered a crash that took him out of contention on his out lap.
The second flying laps brought significant changes to the standings. Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) took the lead ahead of Carraro (Level Up-MTA/KTM), with Farioli in third and rookie Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda) in fourth.
The riders then returned to the pits midway through the session, as is usual. The only rider to improve on the last attempt was Pérez, who was eighth and moved up to fourth. He was 0.017s faster than Piqueras, who missed out. Besides Pérez, Yamanaka, Carraro, and Farioli also advanced to Q2.
