Pedro Acosta achieved his first podium in MotoGP this Sunday, finishing third in the Portuguese Grand Prix. The rookie delivered a solid performance, constantly approaching the front positions and overtaking high-caliber rivals. Maverick Viñales’ (Aprilia) issues confirmed a well-deserved podium on the penultimate lap.
The Spanish rider from Red Bull GasGas Tech3 highlighted the progression throughout the Portimão round, stating in a press conference: ‘I’m super happy. Remember that on Friday afternoon I was out of the Q2. It was a really nice step. It was the first challenging weekend for us, because it was a new track for us on a MotoGP bike. It’s never easy, and even less when you ride for the first time’.
Behind Acosta, there is a team, and the rider made sure to praise their work: ‘The team is making the way much easier. They are managing my head super good, I know I’m not the easiest person in a race weekend sometimes. I’m super happy, you can’t imagine how much work they are doing in the afternoon and also in the nights – because every morning when I wake up I have like 20 messages in my phone with many things to improve or many things to check. For this, I’m super happy about this weekend’.
