Another tribute from the Circuit de Jerez Ángel Nieto. Now, it’s the CEO of Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta, who has his name on one of the corners of the track that usually hosts the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix.
In 2019, Turn 6 was named Dani Pedrosa Corner, while Turn 8 became Jorge Martínez Aspar Corner. And the circuit’s name honors Ángel Nieto, the 12+1 times world champion.
Now, Turn 7 of Jerez is designated as Carmelo Ezpeleta Corner. The announcement came from the Jerez City Council and its president, María José García-Pelayo.
In a press release, the municipality justifies this distinction: ‘It is a show of recognition for his work in favor of motorcycling and, more specifically, the Circuit de Jerez-Ángel Nieto over all these years hosting the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix and the World Superbike Championship’.
According to María José García-Pelayo, it is also ‘an act of justice‘ towards the leader of Dorna, following ‘tireless support’ for the southern Spanish circuit.
