Triumph is launching its Scrambler range for 2024, with the introduction of the new, more affordable Scrambler 1200 X and an improved Scrambler 1200 XE.
Featuring Triumph’s 1200 cc ‘High Power’ Bonneville engine with torque-rich performance, an off-road-ready 21-inch front wheel and Triumph’s premium quality and finishes, the two new models look set to raise the bar in terms of performance and style in the Scrambler category.
The new Scrambler 1200 X offers the same capability, riding position and torque-rich performance that Scrambler customers love, combined with a generous specification of equipment and technology. – Enhanced touring capability with accessory tall screen and robust luggage system with accessory options for rear bags.
THRILLING PERFORMANCE
Both models boast the same 1200 cc Bonneville twin-cylinder engine and torque-rich Scrambler tuning with a new 50 mm single throttle body and revised exhaust manifolds, providing improved flow and greater torque distribution through the upper rev range, from 5,000 RPM to redline.
The 2024 models have also been precisely tuned to provide the perfect balance of power delivery for on- and off-road driving. Peak power now arrives a little earlier in the rev range, reaching 90 hp at 7,000 RPM, with peak torque of 110 Nm also arriving earlier, at 4,250 RPM.
The unmistakable high-spec dual exhaust system is completed by brushed stainless steel silencers, providing that deep, characteristic Scrambler tone.
PREMIUM SPECIFICATION
Both variants share the same Scrambler tubular steel frame, as well as high-specification stainless steel spoked rims with lightweight and sturdy aluminum rims. The two models offer important ergonomic differences, including different handlebar designs, with the XE offering 65 mm more width than the X, ensuring greater control on challenging off-road terrain. Reversible risers allow riders to adjust the position of the handlebars, and the XE also has a removable spacer, for a height adjustment of 10 mm. Expanding the ergonomics even further, the XE also has adjustable foot controls to suit a variety of riding styles and shoe types.
Both bikes feature a premium two-sided cast aluminum swingarm. At 579 mm, the XE has a 32 mm longer swingarm and a longer wheelbase than the X, increasing control and confidence in difficult off-road terrain, while the X’s shorter wheelbase contributes to an agile and responsive ride on the road.
These bikes are also equipped with top-of-the-range Metzeler tires. The X benefits from the road-focused, dual-purpose Karoo Street, while the XE variant gets the Metzeler Tourance, contributing to its unrivaled balance of on- and off-road capability. For even more extreme off-road capabilities, the Triumph-approved Michelin Anakee Wild is the tire of choice.
Both models are equipped with high-specification suspension. The X variant features MarzocchiTM 45 mm cartridge forks more tailored to the road at the front and twin shock units at the rear. The rear suspension units come with preload-adjustable piggy-back reservoirs, allowing customers to fine-tune their riding experience on the road and beyond.
The XE has a more off-road-focused configuration, with optimized 45mm MarzocchiTM forks and premium MarzocchiTM dual-spring suspension units that are fully adjustable and have more incremental adjustment for compression and expansion, providing even greater control. This optimized suspension provides a significant front and rear wheel travel of 250 mm for greater off-road capability and good ground clearance.
STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT
When it comes to braking, both models feature top-of-the-range equipment to ensure efficiency on both road and dirt. The XE features powerful, state-of-the-art BremboTM Stylema® Monoblock radial front calipers with twin 320 mm floating discs, providing class-leading braking performance. While the front is taken care of, the rear is maintained by a 255 mm disc with Nissin calipers, further maximizing braking performance.
The X model has two 310 mm floating front discs with Nissin twin-piston axial calipers. Meanwhile, the rear is supported by a 255 mm rear disc and a Nissin floating brake caliper, to provide confident braking performance on the road. The position of the front brake lever can also be adjusted according to the rider’s preference on both models.
WITH NEW AND IMPROVED RIDER-FOCUSED TECHNOLOGY
Both the Scrambler X and XE feature cornering-optimized ABS and traction control, regulating intervention to provide and maintain optimum traction at any angle of inclination.
Five riding modes are available for the Scrambler 1200 X, each with its own dedicated throttle response and specific ABS and traction control settings. Riders can choose between Sport, Road, Rain, Off-Road and Rider Configurable, while the XE also has Off-Road Pro to allow the experienced rider complete and uninterrupted control for the most challenging off-road riding.
Greater driving stability is achieved thanks to a high-specification Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU) that was developed in conjunction with Continental. This system enables the optimization of cornering ABS and traction control, automatically selecting the correct setting by measuring roll, pitch, yaw and acceleration rates to calculate the lean angle. With a special focus on improving the overall riding experience, the X and XE are both equipped with an assisted clutch.
The Scrambler 1200 XE features integrated, customizable TFT color instruments. Two minimal and elegant information layout design themes are available, each with a further three options for changing the level of information displayed. The choice between a high or low contrast screen is also available, as well as a customized start-up screen to make the latest Scrambler XE completely your own.
The Scrambler 1200 X features its own hybrid LCD/TFT multifunction display, incorporated into an elegantly stylized circular instrument dial. This compact, minimalist display can be easily read at a glance.
SCRAMBLER’S UNMISTAKABLE CUSTOM STYLE
Both models feature the key elements that make the Scrambler simply unmistakable, from their distinctive silhouettes to the raised dual exhaust design and beautifully sculpted fuel tank. Both models feature a classic one-piece ribbed seat, in black for the XE and brown for the X, and both feature improved styling details in the form of a new slim indicator design and compact rear light housing.
The bikes come complete with a variety of striking finishes and details, including sculpted side panels with a brushed aluminum Scrambler 1200 emblem, the iconic triangular Triumph emblem on the tank, a Monza-style brushed aluminum filler cap and a brushed stainless bracelet. The XE is finished with brushed aluminum mudguards, while the X features high-quality painted mudguards.
There are three exclusive color schemes available for each model. The Scrambler 1200 XE will be available in the contemporary Phantom Black & Storm Grey, which features red accents, the bold new Baja Orange & Phantom Black, or the ever-popular Sapphire Black. The Scrambler 1200 X is available in Carnival Red, Ash Grey or the classic Sapphire Black.
PERSONALIZE YOUR SCRAMBLER
More than 70 genuine accessories are available for even more touring capability, ranging from heated grips, a 35-liter rear bag and a tall “Dakar” screen, to raised front mudguards, handlebar mounts and stainless steel engine bars. The complete robust luggage system now offers 102 liters of total storage capacity.
THE ORIGINAL SCRAMBLERS AND TODAY’S SCRAMBLER SCENE
The new Scrambler 1200 range can trace its roots directly back to the original Scrambler scene of the early 1950s, where Triumph played a key role and defined the model for what became a larger Scrambler. Building on the main everyday motorcycles, stripped down, with straight “twin exhausts” mounted high, or low and cut off.
the Triumphs were the original ‘desert sled’. They inspired the world’s first production scramblers, with the Bonneville T 120TT and the TR6 ‘SC’. In 2006, with the launch of the first Scrambler of the “modern era”, Triumph once again sparked the genesis of a new category. This unleashed the world of Scramblers we see today and a whole new global fan base, from urban riders to movie stars, even starring in the latest Bond film, No Time to Die.
