Marc Márquez retired from the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas after crashing while leading, having been in contention for a podium finish up to that point. The front brakes were reportedly the cause of the incident, due to an unexpected problem.
Óscar Haro commented on the matter on Nico Abad’s YouTube channel, explaining what might have happened – with the condition of the track surface possibly playing a role:
– I don’t know what could have happened with the brakes at Gresini. Marc brakes, lowers the lever, and he brakes quickly two or three times for the pump to gain pressure, but he’s already leaned over and without brakes. So, the first pinch that the disc makes with the handlebar already leaned over and on the bumpy track surface, because it’s a circuit that’s bumpy, causes the front to close, and you lose control.
The former LCR Honda team director emphasized that there is no blame to be placed on Márquez: ‘It’s not Marc’s fault, it’s a mechanical failure that exists on all bikes, and you don’t know when it will happen. That brake action is very fast’.
This is the second consecutive round in which Márquez has crashed while fighting for top positions. At the moment, the Spaniard is in eighth place overall, having finished in second place in the last two Sprint races.
