The Grand Prix of the Americas revealed a fragile Honda from a competitive standpoint. Only Luca Marini managed to finish both the Sprint race and the main race, and the four riders from the Japanese manufacturer consistently found themselves at the back of the grid since the practice sessions.
One aspect that Honda is working on is the engine. Mir confirmed this without going into details: ‘Yes, they are also working on it for this season’.
Marini, when asked about the engine, emphasized that it’s one of several items that need improvement: ‘It’s time to bring everything new, it’s not only the engine’.
Takaaki Nakagami, of the LCR Honda satellite team, also admitted that the engine alone won’t solve all the existing problems: ‘I hope so, but I cannot say where this low potential comes from. Maybe you say, «maybe from the engine». And an engine solves the problem for everything. I hope so, but at the moment I’m not feeling this, because on engine you can’t solve all the balance, the front feeling, or the rear grip. There are many problems at the moment’.
