Álex Rins managed to score points again with 15th place in the French MotoGP Grand Prix. However, it was a tough race for the Monster Energy Yamaha rider, who spent much of the race stuck behind Luca Marini (Repsol Honda), unable to overtake the opponent.
The Spaniard spoke about these struggles, which he considers to have been the major issue in the Le Mans race: ‘It was really tough for me. I struggled a lot since the beginning to overtake the rider I had in front. This was the main problem. At the start, the front wheel was a little bit high and I lost some positions. But then, lap by lap I was stuck there behind Marini. I was trying to manage the amount of throttle to get a good traction to exit close to him and overtake him on straight or on brakes. But it was really impossible to me, he was going. This was the biggest problem’.
At a certain point, Rins managed to overtake the Italian rival, then managing the situation as best as possible: ‘When I was riding alone, with the problems that we had all the weekend, I was able to manage more or less, riding on 1m32s low with problems to stop the bike, on brakes, a lot of slide going into the corners’.
For the Yamaha rider, it was a round to understand and gather information before an important test in Mugello starting tomorrow: ‘This weekend was a weekend to understand and to take information, because I didn’t feel that we did a step day by day. Now it’s so important to make a reset. We will jump again on the bike in Mugello for an important test, and let’s see if we can improve’.
