Ducati faces a difficult decision regarding its team lineup for the 2025 MotoGP season. With only one spot available in the factory team, at least three strong contenders are vying for it. Whoever is left out may likely join a rival team.
Jorge Martín of Prima Pramac is one of the contenders. Leading the championship after five rounds, Martín has made it clear he wants to be part of a factory team next year, preferably with Ducati.
Marc Márquez, currently with Gresini Ducati, is another strong candidate. The eight-time world champion (six in the premier class) has shown this year that he can still compete at the top level after struggling in recent seasons.
Enea Bastianini, who is currently with Ducati, is the third contender. He is fourth in the championship and has consistently finished in the top five in main races, proving his worth for the factory team spot.
Two riders are confirmed by Ducati: Francesco Bagnaia, who is secured in the main team until 2026, and Fermín Aldeguer, who will debut in a satellite team next year.
Ramón Forcada highlighted Ducati’s challenging situation. Speaking on the Dura La Vita podcast, the engineer revealed that even Ducati is unsure of its next move:
– I have information from Ducati. They have a «who do I let go?» problem. If they let go of a good rider… and another thing is they also have Aldeguer, so there are five in play. They told me: «What amuses me is that no one knows what we are going to do… and we don’t know either». Pramac only has to decide if it invests in Márquez or not, because they already have him, they don’t have to go get him. I wouldn’t know what to choose.
