Francesco Bagnaia finished the Le Mans GP 38 points behind his rival, Jorge Martín. With the Catalunya GP coming up this weekend, the Italian rider will have to overtake Martín if he wants to close the gap to the championship leader.
Speaking to MotoSprint, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider spoke about the approach he will take over the coming weekend.
– First of all, finish the race: like in France, I haven’t crossed the finish line for two years. In 2022 I crashed in the first corner, last year I jumped in the second, so at least I hope to make it four corners! It was another track where we were very fast last year, we were going very fast. Sunday’s race with the medium tire would probably have given us another win, but that’s what happened.
Pecco revealed his enjoyment of the circuit: ‘It’s a circuit I’ve always really liked. It’s definitely not the safest in the World Championship because of the asphalt. That’s why it’s dangerous to race there, but it’s one of the most beautiful and characteristic circuits.
He added about this year’s competitiveness and talked about his biggest rival: ‘It’s difficult. It’s a difficult championship, so many riders are doing well, so many competitive bikes to win, a bit like in recent years. It’s going to be even more complicated. I’m sure Martin is the number one rival at the moment.
