Jorge Martín already has a 38-point lead over Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) in the MotoGP World Championship standings after just five rounds. This means that, regardless of the outcome of the next GP in Barcelona, he will not be overtaken.
It’s a promising start from last year’s runner-up, who once again appears to be a strong title contender – although at this stage, it is too early to make any definitive calculations.
Danilo Petrucci told MOW Mag that he believes Martín and Bagnaia will be the two main protagonists in the title fight. However, he thinks more riders could also challenge for the top positions:
– I see Martín particularly fast, in explosive form, but since last year I understood that the more Pecco is in trouble, the more he rises. It will be a fight between the two of them with the inclusion of Marc [Márquez] and [Maverick] Viñales, in my opinion. I hope [Enea] Bastianini and [Marco] Bezzecchi join the fight soon.
Currently, Márquez and Bastianini are in third and fourth place, respectively – just two points behind Bagnaia in second and 40 points off the lead. Viñales and Bezzecchi are further behind in the championship standings, but both have shown the ability to be at the front this year, with the Spanish rider even securing a victory.
