Valentino Rossi was one of faces that took part in the Track Day that Monster Energy has organized, yesterday at Silverstone. The italian enjoyed the day a lot, considering it was a great idea the way the brad gathered a very special group of riders.
Speaking to brand at the British track, Rossi – who said goodbye to his MotoGP career as a rider at the end of 2021 – showed a great speed, and used a color scheme that have followed him for many years at the category, saying:
– Is fantastic, a great idea from Monster. It’s the best way to make a *PR day because we can ride the bike here in Silverstone, and look, it’s unbelievable [the weather, on a sunny day], a real summer, and it’s a fantastic feeling to share the track with John McGuinness, John Hopkins – we did some laps together – and with all the guys from different championships, and also the Academy [VR46] guys. We always train like this. But being here in Silverstone from Monster is great’.
He also recalled his bond with Monster that started over a decade ago: ‘I think I started with them [Monster Energy] in 2008 or 2009 so a long, long time ago. I feel the oldest here! But it’s also a pleasure because I have seen the evolution over the years. The way they approach everything is a bit like today: calm and trying to have fun together. We’re having a good time’.
Rossi then continued, revealing he was a little ‘worried about the weather’, as Silverstone can sometimes be tricky, which didn’t happened: ‘I thought it might be eight degrees and rain but this is fantastic’.
As for his onw shape, the italian said he tries, whenever possible, to ride his bike, and that given this was no championship race, the feeling was great: ‘I [always] try to have some time on the bike…because I don’t want to give up. I feel in quite good shape and, also, when you do a [track] day like this then you can push but still have fun because there is a bit of margin; you think ‘I’ll try the maximum…but I don’t need the Pole Position’. It’s a great feeling. It’s always difficult because it’s physical – the cars are easier – but it’s always fantastic’.
