Jorge Martín was one of the highlights of the Jerez GP. After winning the Sprint race, the Spanish rider couldn’t avoid a mistake and a crash in Sunday’s race.
Another standout rider in the Sprint race was Pedro Acosta, who finished in second position, but like his rival, Jorge Martín, he didn’t get the best result in Sunday’s race, finishing only 10th overall.
Speaking to DAZN, Jorge Lorenzo commented on the performance of the two Spanish riders, who have been major protagonists at the start of the MotoGP season so far.
– ‘If the crashes were expected, there wouldn’t have been any crashes. Martin wasn’t expecting an incident in that place. The fact that everyone went out with the medium tire, which is harder in the middle and causes a bit more front locking, didn’t help either. Above all, the pressure I was getting from Bagnaia and Márquez helped. With a gap of more than a second, maybe I could have avoided the crash, but that pressure made Martin want to give a bit more, he wanted to brake later and he had trouble with the front tire.
He added his opinion on the performance of the rookie, Pedro Acosta: ‘Given that this circuit was favorable to KTM, in this case GASGAS, Acosta thought he could fight for the win here, but the truth is that the race showed that he wasn’t ready for it, that he didn’t have the speed, he didn’t have the rhythm, and the crash this morning in the warm up was very strong. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, and that made him start the race badly, with a touch with Zarco, but he held on to the bike and finished the race, gaining experience, kilometers and some points.
