Adrián Huertas achieved the first pole position of the World Supersport season this Friday at Phillip Island. A promising start for the rider who succeeds last year’s champion, Nicolò Bulega, at Aruba.it Ducati.
The MV Agusta riders, Bahattin Sofuoglu and Marcel Schrötter, were the early leaders in Superpole, but with just over three minutes elapsed, Huertas moved to the top of the timing charts. The Spaniard even improved his time twice and ended with a time of 1m31.407s before crashing at turn 11 and having to go to the medical center, where he was declared fit.
The closest competitor was Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati) at 0.159s, followed by Schrötter. Last year’s runner-up, Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate), will start from fourth in Australia, sharing the second row of the grid with Valentin Debise (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha) and Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha).
During Superpole, several laps were canceled due to yellow flags. The rain that threatened throughout the session eventually affected the final minutes, preventing any further improvements.
