In recent days, there have been rumors about Joan Mir’s future – which could involve ending his MotoGP career. The rider is in the final year of his contract with Repsol Honda, whose results and performances continue to be very poor. Team director Alberto Puig was confronted with the 2020 champion’s situation.
The leader understands the fact that the rider is not happy with the performances, but stressed that the focus is on making progress with the RC213V:
– Normally a rider when things are not working gets a little bit… of course we fully understand he’s not happy. But for now, honestly speaking, we are trying to focus, all of us – him, Luca [Marini] and all the team – on trying to fix the bike’s problems.
As for the renewal of Mir’s contract, it’s a subject that will only begin to be debated in the coming weeks, Puig told to MotoGP.com: ‘We still did not get to a discussion regarding the renewal. But of course sooner or later, probably this month, in the summer time, June, July, we will have to make some decisions and we will go from there’.
