Aleix Espargaró will not be able to compete in the MotoGP German GP. Despite being cleared to participate in the first free practice session at Sachsenring, the rider realized that his pain would not allow him to continue.
During this morning’s session, the Aprilia rider completed three laps, which were enough to confirm that the pain in his finger, injured during the Sprint race in Assen, was too intense and restrictive. Now, he has about a month to recover during the summer break.
A few minutes after the decision was announced, Espargaró gave a brief interview to the official broadcast. The Spaniard admitted that the pain he felt hindered his riding to the point of being a dangerous situation:
– I had a lot of pain before coming here. I decided to come in the very last moment. Obviously the doctors told me «You will not be able to ride, because you have a big, big injury in the hand and it’s the right hand, where you have to accelerate». But I didn’t want to stay at home, so I came here, I tried my best. But it’s impossible, I have a lot of pain. Every time I turn into the right I cannot control the throttle, so it’s also dangerous for the others. So, I’m forced to stop.
