Bubba Wallace challenged Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) during qualifying on Saturday. Wallace interrupted a photo session with Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Alex Bowman. This year, the NASCAR Cup weekend in Martinsville holds special significance for HMS as it marks the 40th anniversary since their first victory at this iconic track. The team is celebrating its humble origins and journey to becoming the most successful team in the sport with special paint schemes. All HMS drivers, including Wallace, wore red jumpsuits for the event, and their cars were also predominantly red. This unexpected uniformity gave the team a unique look. Additionally, the 23XI Racing driver also sported red during the weekend, adding a touch of humor to the occasion. During the photo session, Wallace joked around and joined the other drivers, causing laughter and fun among his teammates. Qualifying proved to be a tough competition for Wallace as he lost by just 0.001 seconds to Larson for the pole position. Elliott secured the third position, while Bowman will start in tenth for the Cook Out 400. Unfortunately, Byron qualified in 18th place. Although Martinsville has historically been a challenging track for Kyle Larson, he managed to redeem himself last season by winning there. He is hopeful to repeat that success on Sunday, especially with the advantage gained in qualifying. Larson is confident he can have a strong race and hold off Wallace, who will start alongside him at the front of the race. However, Larson will face tough competition from JGR and 23XI cars, which have dominated the last three races on short tracks. Additionally, Ford cars are expected to bounce back from their weak performance on the track.
