“When the front tires refuse to turn in the corners, it forces the drivers to wait longer to apply power on the exit, resulting in a significant loss of lap time.
“In extreme cases, the drivers have to force the car through the corner using the accelerator, which causes the rear tires to overheat due to the understeer issue.
“It’s disheartening to have a weekend where both drivers performed well and fulfilled their roles competently, but the hardware itself is not up to standard.
“Our challenge in the upcoming races is to improve both the car setup and the components we introduced.”
Hamilton managed to secure second place in the China Sprint due to favorable circumstances, but expressed regret for the ambitious changes made to the setup, which led to his early elimination in Q1.
Allison admitted that Mercedes must learn from this experience to avoid a regression when the Sprint format is used again in Miami.
“We learned that if we want to be ambitious, we should do so during the Sprint race, and then we can make adjustments for the main race, instead of the other way around,” he emphasized.
“I hope we have a better car with the upgrades we are bringing to Miami, considering the fierce competition in the standings.
“In the battle we are facing, even a few hundredths of a second can make a difference, and a few tenths can be crucial.
