SpeedUp performed well in the Moto2 free practice for the French GP, placing its two riders in the top two positions. Alonso López set a new lap record and led the session.
When most riders had recorded flying laps, Jake Dixon (CFMoto Inde Aspar/Kalex) topped the timesheets, a position he reinforced with his subsequent attempts despite being momentarily overtaken between each lap.
The Briton was indeed the rider who led for the longest time, about 20 minutes, before being overtaken by championship leader Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex). However, the American couldn’t hold onto the position.
In the final five minutes, López (Folladore SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) set a series of fast laps that put him in first place with a new lap record: 1m35.556s. He outpaced teammate Fermín Aldeguer by 0.155s, while Roberts finished third, 0.384s behind.
Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) and Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) rounded out the top five of this session, which is the only Moto2 session of the weekend where times don’t count for anything.
