Alpine and Michelin have once again partnered to develop specific tires for the future 100% electric models of the French brand, starting with the A290, an electric city car with a sporty DNA, expected to be launched in 2024.
The Dieppe-based company has announced that the future compact electric sports car will benefit from innovative solutions to offer the emblematic agility of Alpine and driving pleasure in all conditions. Whether it’s sporty driving or everyday use, precision and traction combine with ease of use and comfort, and for that, it will rely on three types of tires, two for summer: the Pilot Sport EV, a tire with optimized energy efficiency that combines grip, longevity, and range, and the Pilot Sport S5, a more sporty tire designed to extract the full potential of the A290 on dry and wet surfaces.
In addition, a winter tire, the Pilot Alpin 5, will also be available. Michelin claims it offers a high level of grip to face different winter conditions, particularly in cold and inclement weather, on wet or snowy roads.
With a length of 3.99 meters, the Alpine A290 features a wheelbase that favors agility, while a wider track increases stability, especially during braking.
The wider tracks also allow for an increase of over 15% in the tire tread cross-section, to 225 mm in width, thus increasing the contact surface with the ground.
“After the A110, Alpine renews its trust in Michelin for the development of its future electric models in its Dream Garage, starting with the A290. This exclusive partnership allowed the teams of both brands to share their technical knowledge very early on to optimize the suspension, steering, and control systems of the car,” emphasized Philippe Krief, CEO of Alpine.
