The evolution of portable electronic airbag systems continues with the introduction of the Tech-Air 7x from Alpinestars. Designed to be more compact and easier to use, the Tech-Air 7x replaces Astars’ Tech-Air Race and will be sold alongside the already available Tech-Air 10, Tech-Air 5, Tech-Air 3 and Tech-Air Off-Road.
This complete line completes Alpinestars’ objective of having a Tech-Air system adapted to any type of riding, whether on the circuit, on the public road or in the dirt.
Similar to the Tech-Air Race it replaces, the 7x can be integrated into the company’s Tech-Air compatible racing suits and jackets or used as a stand-alone vest when using the converter kit supplied with the system. The user can replace the canisters in the first four uses before sending the system in for a full service and replacement of the airbag bladder
The airbag coverage is centered on the upper body, with protection for the entire back and chest, collarbones and shoulders. This differs from the Tech-Air 10, which also includes hip protection.
A big talking point related to the airbag is convenience. Astars addresses this by including a USB-C charging port in the activation flap on the chest. The ability to integrate Tech-Air 7x into compatible equipment also increases functionality and overall comfort – no worries about grabbing your suit and airbag vest when you hit the track.
Using the system is as simple as zipping up the vest and closing the magnetic flap. An integrated lithium-ion battery has a driving range of 25 hours. Battery status and other data can be checked via the Alpinestars Tech-Air app, accessible via Bluetooth.
