Since its launch in 1997, equipped with a 185 hp 1.6 engine, and sold only in the domestic market (Japan), with a 3-door body, the Honda Type R has risen to the status of a cult car. What it certainly would not have imagined was the Japanese icon transformed into a symbol of the American automotive industry, a true “muscle car”.
That’s exactly what the renowned Japanese tuner Mitsuoka did with this spectacular M55 Concept, a unique model created from the Honda Civic to pay homage to the Dodge Challenger, which says goodbye to the legendary V8 engine. The third generation of the American brand’s model is confirmed with a 3.0 inline six-cylinder biturbo engine, replacing the famous HEMI. The “Americanized” Civic Type R study will be exhibited at two Tokyo dealerships in the coming months of December and January to celebrate Mitsuoka’s 55th anniversary.
