It’s no secret that Pedro Acosta and KTM have already agreed on the young Spaniard’s move to MotoGP in 2024. However, doubts remain: on which team will the 19-year-old rider line up?
Red Bull KTM Ajo secured its future and announced today the signing of Celestino Vietti and Deniz Öncü for their lineup in Moto2 starting next year, while the Austrian manufacturer still has to solve a situation that doesn’t seem easy: Brad Binder recently renewed and is a cornerstone in the orange team’s project, while Jack Miller has a contract until the end of 2024.
Recently, international media floated the possibility of the executives offering the Australian double his salary and the chance to compete in 2024 with ten wildcards, while taking on the role of a test rider alongside Dani Pedrosa. However, no further news about this possibility has been discussed.
On the other hand, after Dorna denied KTM the opportunity to have more bikes in the field in 2024, the fact remains that GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 has two riders also contractually secured: Augusto Fernández – the only rookie in the main category this year – and Pol Espargaró, who also has a signed contract and is trusted by Hervé Poncharal’s structure.
Fernández is doing well in the team and has had interesting results, while Espargaró is still looking to get back in form after being sidelined for several months due to a serious injury.
The French head, Poncharal, has publicly expressed on more than one occasion that he intends to keep the duo, without forgetting the development role and experience that Espargaró brings to the team.
While it might be possible to delay the situation and make a turnaround for Acosta to stay one more year in Moto2, after today’s news about 2024 and the intermediate class team riders, the question is more pressing than ever: what will KTM do to “find” a bike for Acosta?”
This piece seems to discuss the complications and challenges surrounding Pedro Acosta’s anticipated move to MotoGP in 2024, considering the current rider contracts and team compositions.
