Andrea Dovizioso has an unusual record in a sport as prone to injuries as motorcycling. Since his full-time debut in the World Championships in 2002 until his retirement last year, he never missed a race.
Despite experiencing injuries throughout his career, none were severe enough to keep him away from the tracks. In fact, the period he spent without competing from 2002 was when he was without a seat in the grid between the start of the 2021 season and the Aragon GP in the same year.
In an interview with PecinoGP, Dovizioso was asked about this achievement. The world championship runner-up in 2017, 2018, and 2019 admitted that he was fortunate in this aspect:
– I can say that I’ve been quite lucky. I’ve had crashes, broken bones, but when I think about other riders, I can say I’ve been lucky. My 37 years are noticeable, especially when doing motocross, but I can feel lucky, in quotation marks.
