Andrea Dovizioso was one of the key figures in MotoGP, especially in the second half of the 2010s, finishing as the runner-up three times behind Marc Márquez. At the end of 2020, he lost his place at Ducati, only to return to the grid towards the end of the following year with the SRT. He remained with Yamaha’s satellite team in 2022 but ultimately decided to retire after the San Marino GP.
There was a clear decline in performance since his second-place finish in 2019, with the rider struggling to replicate the competitive level he had previously shown. This difficulty led him to decide to retire, as he recently explained to Motosan.es:
– During the last year, when I wasn’t competitive, I felt that I couldn’t express my potential because my characteristics weren’t working. I wanted to get out of this situation, and that was the reason why I retired before. Above all, being used to being in more advanced positions, it wasn’t pleasant for me to be there.
