Arón Canet didn’t do better than the Mandalika record from this morning but secured the pole position for the Moto2 Indonesian GP by dominating the qualifying session.
Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp/Kalex) led in the initial moments of the session, but without improving his time on his second attempt, he dropped three positions. Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) took the lead.
Filip Salac (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) was in second place, with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) in third. However, there was still a lot of time left in the session. Six minutes from the end, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) complicated his task by crashing when he was in eighth place.
In his penultimate lap, González came within just three thousandths of a second of the lead in second place. He couldn’t go any further, and Canet thus confirmed the pole position. Salac will start from third place, ahead of Acosta.
