Arón Canet started the Moto2 British GP with the fastest time in this morning’s free practice session at Silverstone – where 12 riders were separated by less than a second.
Fermín Aldeguer (GT Trevisan SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was the first to set a time, but after the initial laps, Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) took the lead. The Spaniard was briefly overtaken but soon returned to the top of the standings.
However, after the first 15 minutes, Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar/Kalex) posted a lap that allowed him to lead for over 13 minutes until Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) overtook him.
Following that, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) and Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) were also leading before Canet put in a sequence of two fast laps to secure his position at the top.
Canet’s best time was 2m04.021s, placing him 0.263s ahead of Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex). González finished in third, with Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) in fourth and Arbolino in fifth. Championship leader Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) ended the session in eighth, 0.671s off the top.
