Arón Canet set the pace in the second practice session of the Moto2 German GP, but it wasn’t enough to dethrone Somkiat Chantra, who remained the fastest overall thanks to his record-breaking lap from yesterday.
Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) led after the first flying laps, before being overtaken by Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro). The championship leader soon improved his time, staying at the top of the timesheets for about 18 minutes.
Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) then briefly took the lead, but García reclaimed his position shortly after. With just over four minutes remaining, Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) clocked the best lap of the session at 1m22.744s, edging out García by a mere 0.009s.
The session was highly competitive, with the top four riders separated by less than a tenth of a second. Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) finished third, ahead of Jake Dixon (CFMoto Polarcube Aspar/Kalex), with Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) rounding out the top five and Roberts in sixth.
In the combined standings, only three riders did not improve on their times from yesterday afternoon, one of whom was Chantra. The Thai rider did not complete any flying laps after a heavy crash at turn 12 early in the session, but his record-breaking lap from yesterday kept him at the top with a 0.046s gap over Canet.

As for the direct entry into the second qualifying session, Ramírez secured the last spot, finishing 14th, just 0.002s ahead of Dennis Foggia (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex). Among the riders who will have to go through Q1 is Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex), who missed the chance to finish in the top 14 due to a late crash.
