Arón Canet clinched the final Moto2 pole position of the season this Saturday. The Spaniard set the pace in the qualifying session for the Valencia GP, although he didn’t better than the lap record set by Fermín Aldeguer this morning in the third practice session.
Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing/Kalex) initially led the session, but on the second flying lap, Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) took the front oahead of Aldeguer (CAG SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) followed suit in leading the pack.
Within the last five minutes, Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) moved into the top spot, but several riders were on strong sectors and capable of improving. That’s precisely what Aldeguer and Dixon did, securing the top two positions. Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex) showcased speed in the final laps but ended up second, just 0.020s behind the leader.
At the very end, Canet clocked the best time in 1m33.314s, edging out Aldeguer by 0.174s to claim pole position in Pons’ farewell round. Ramírez will start from third, while reigning champion Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) will line up in sixth on the grid.
