Arón Canet confirmed his superiority on the first day of the Moto2 British GP. The rider led the session this afternoon with a new lap record at Silverstone, after setting the pace in the earlier free practice session as well.
In addition to the Spaniard, seven other riders led the session at some point. One of them was Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar/Kalex), who held the top position for almost half an hour thanks to his first flying lap.
The British rider was eventually beaten by Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), who remained at the top for about six minutes before Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) set a faster time.
Moments later, Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) set the fastest lap of the session at 2m03.602s, beating Vietti by 0.294s. Arbolino finished in third, 0.457s off the pace, while Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) was fourth, and Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) concluded the session in fifth. Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), the championship leader, ended up in eighth place, 0.515s behind Canet.
